A Few of My Favorite Moments this Week (24/10/26)

October tends to arrive with quiet wisdom. It doesn’t shout like December or rush in like March. It simply invites us to pause, reflect, and be grateful for the things that carried us.

Below were some my favorite things this week…

Favorite Routine: Evening Exercise

Just before Cycling

Earlier this year, before my surgeries in May, I had plans to return to my usual workout routine within a month. I thought I’d be back to normal fairly quickly, but my body had other plans.

For a while, even moving my lower body was so painful that I could hardly do it without crying out. I had to put my plans aside, slow down, and give my body the time it needed to heal.

It was a reminder that sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is stop pushing and allow ourselves to recover.

I’m so grateful that, several months later, I’m back on my feet and gradually finding my rhythm again!

The joy of being able to sweat intentionally

Lately, evenings have become my favorite time to move. I’m not following an elaborate fitness programme or trying to hit any impressive targets. Some days, I walk or stretch. Other days, I pick up a few light weights or dance with the kids.

Twenty to thirty minutes is usually enough.

I love how it helps me release the tension of the day and settle into the evening feeling a little lighter. It’s also a small pocket of time when I can focus on myself after spending much of the day attending to everyone and everything else.

I’m learning to appreciate movement for how it makes me feel, rather than treating it as another item to tick off my to-do list.

And after everything my body has been through this year, I’m especially grateful to be moving again— and I’ve learned to treasure it.

Favorite Helpers: Godwin and Aunt Shakira

October was one of those months that reminded me just how much a family depends on one another.

Between hospital nights, school schedules, work responsibilities, and the usual demands of running a home, there was a lot to juggle.

When Poyel came down with a viral rash and a bad chesty cough, his dad stepped in with comforting prayers, reassurance, and a constant presence. Aunt Shakira, our faithful helper, even spent nights at the hospital watching over him so that I could continue managing work, home, and Vona’s school routine.

I honestly don’t know how I would have managed without them.

They didn’t simply help me get through a difficult stretch. They gave me room to breathe when I needed it most.

Sometimes, we talk about support as though it’s always something grand or extraordinary. But often, it looks like someone staying up through the night so you can get some rest, taking over a responsibility without being asked twice, or simply being present when life feels overwhelming.

Godwin and Aunt Shakira were such a blessing to our family during that season.

I’m grateful for the people God places around us, especially the ones who quietly help carry the load when our own hands are full.

Favorite Homemaking Win: Batch Breakfasts

I’ve finally joined the batch-breakfast club, and I’m wondering why I didn’t start sooner!

Mornings can be a little chaotic around here, especially when everyone needs something at the same time. Having to figure out breakfast from scratch on top of everything else isn’t always my idea of a peaceful start to the day.

Sugar free, wheat free oat cake

So, I’ve been experimenting with making a few things ahead of time.

Oat muffins, homemade granola, folded chapati-and-egg wraps, and smoothie packs ready to blend have all made their way into the routine.

Nothing particularly fancy, but having something ready to grab or heat up has been such a relief.

It means fewer decisions in the morning, less rushing around the kitchen, and a better chance of everyone eating before the day gets away from us.

Of course, not every morning runs smoothly. This is still a home with children, after all!

But even a little preparation makes a noticeable difference.

Favorite Family Moment: Vegetable harvesting

We cant get enough of the greens…thanx to the heavy rains.

One of the sweetest little joys this month has been harvesting cucumbers and collard greens from our garden! There’s something so satisfying about picking something you’ve planted and cared for with your own hands. The kids get to join in, and it’s a lovely reminder that good things often grow quietly, with a little patience and care.

The cucumbers that wilted and later died

Most of the cucumbers didn’t quite make it to harvest, though! Between the ones that disappeared along the way and the few that survived long enough to be picked, we didn’t have a huge harvest. But the handful of fresh cucumbers we did manage to bring in felt like a little victory worth celebrating! 🥒

Favorite Kitchen Upgrade: My Freezer Containers

After one too many freezer spills and far too many mystery leftovers, I finally invested in a set of stackable, airtight freezer containers.

Why did I wait so long?

I can now freeze food in manageable portions, stack the containers neatly, and label everything (even if it’s just a piece of tape and a permanent marker). Everything has its place, and I can actually see what we have without digging through a mountain of frozen food.

It’s such a simple change, but it has made meal planning and food storage much easier.

And the best part? No more freezer avalanches every time I open the door!

Sometimes, the little things really do make the biggest difference in running a home.

Now I’d love to hear from you! What are a few little things making your life easier or sweeter lately? Have you found a kitchen tool you can’t live without, a routine that’s changed your mornings, or a simple family tradition you love?

Tell me in the comments. I’m always happy to discover a good idea to borrow!

Cheers,

Pree
