A Few of My Favorite Things (October 2026) 🌼

I always enjoy discovering little things that make everyday life a little easier, brighter, or simply more enjoyable. And sometimes, the things we end up loving most aren’t necessarily expensive or particularly fancy. They’re just things that come in handy, make us smile, or remind us of something special.

So today, I’m sharing a few of my favorite things lately. We have a little budgeting, some flowers, a bit of gardening, and something that’s proving particularly useful in this rather warm weather!

1. My Money-Saving Binder šŸ’°

One of the things I’m working on in this season of my life is becoming more intentional with money. I’ve been thinking more about saving, keeping track of where our money goes, and making better financial decisions.

It’s actually part of a personal journey I’ve been calling Priscilla at 40 — a little project I’m doing for myself as I work towards becoming more intentional about different areas of my life before I turn 40. I only recently started sharing bits and pieces of it here on the blog, so you’ll probably hear me mention it from time to time.

This little binder is one of the tools I’m using to help me get better with money.

I love that it gives me somewhere to record my planned income, actual income, expenses, budget and savings. There’s something about writing things down that makes them feel a little more real. You can no longer pretend you don’t know where the money went when you’ve actually recorded it!

It also has over 12 pockets for different groups of expenses with beautiful labels for each.

Of course, buying a pretty binder won’t automatically make me a better saver. The real work is in using it consistently, being honest about my spending, and following through on the plans I make. But every little step counts, right?

I have a few extra money binders that I’m selling at 75,000 ugx each, on first come basis. You can buy your copy here: https://store.pesapal.com/shop/s4k4pr-drpree?productCode=f521df70-649a-4c29-a1c8-aa7a02118e4d

2. My Birthday Flowers That Kept Giving 🌸

Towards the end of September, I celebrated another birthday and received this beautiful bouquet of flowers. They brought me so much joy! I loved having them around the house, brightening up the space and reminding me of the thoughtfulness behind the gift.

For about two weeks, I enjoyed watching them sit pretty in their little spot. Eventually, the flowers began to dry out, and it was time to say goodbye to the bouquet. I was a little sad to see them go, but I was also grateful for the beauty they brought into my home while they lasted.

Birthdays have a way of making you pause and reflect, don’t they? Another year of life is not something I want to take for granted. As I look back, I’m reminded that every year, every season, and every breath is a gift from God. There have been joys, lessons, challenges, and moments when His faithfulness has carried me through.

And the older I get, the more I want my life to point back to Him.

There’s something beautiful about flowers. They bloom, they bring joy, and eventually they fade. They remind me of how fleeting earthly things can be and how much we need to keep our hearts anchored in what is eternal. The beauty of a bouquet doesn’t last forever, but the beauty of Christ, His character, His love, and His faithfulness never fades.

I’m reminded of the words of Isaiah 40:8:

ā€œThe grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.ā€

So, here’s to another year of life, another opportunity to grow in grace, and another year to become more like Jesus. My prayer is that as the years pass, my life will reflect less of me and more of Him.

And for these beautiful birthday flowers? I’m simply grateful for the joy they brought and the little reminder they left behind: the things of this world may fade, but Christ remains. 🌸

3. Saving Seeds for the Next Season 🌱

Speaking of seeds, I’m quite pleased with myself for actually collecting and labelling these!

I’m still learning as I go with gardening, so I find it satisfying when I can save seeds from plants I’ve already grown instead of starting from scratch every time. I bought one packet of Starke (South African brand) zinnia seeds for just UGX 9,000, and now I’m getting several returns from that one-time investment!

I’ve kept the zinnias and French marigold seeds separate and labelled their envelopes so I don’t have to rely on my memory later. Because, let’s be honest, I might remember exactly what they are today, but a few months from now? That’s another story!

The dry zinnia plant and the seeds i harvested from just one of them.

I’m looking forward to planting them when the time is right and seeing how many germinate.

I also get to share some of the seeds with friends and family as little gifts, so the beauty of these flowers can live on in other gardens, too. I love the thought of these blooms continuing their legacy, bringing colour, joy, and a little beauty into the lives of the people I love. 🌱🌸

There’s something very rewarding about growing flowers from seed. It requires a little patience, but that makes the results even more enjoyable.

If you grow flowers or vegetables, do you save your own seeds, or do you prefer buying new ones each season?

4. My Little Portable Fan

And finally, something that’s proving very useful lately: this little portable fan!

I don’t know what the weather has been up to, but the heat has been something else. Whenever I need a little cooling down, this fan comes in handy.

It’s small enough to carry around, and I like that I don’t have to be sitting next to a wall socket or stay in one place to get some relief from the heat.

It’s one of those simple purchases that makes you wonder why you didn’t get one earlier!

I especially appreciate practical items like this because they don’t have to be complicated to be useful. Sometimes, a little gadget that does exactly what you need it to do is all you want.

I’ll definitely be keeping this one close by on those particularly hot days.

That’s it for my little list!

What are some of your favorite things lately? Have you discovered a useful household item, started using something that has made life easier, or found a little way to save money?

Tell me about it in the comments. I’m always happy to discover something new!

Until next time,

Pree 🌷
