5 Simple Ways I Show Love to myself.

February, the ‘month of Love’ is almost coming to an end. We have shared our love with the people we treasure except ourselves. It’s high time we pressed the pause button, so we can focus on ourselves too.
Below are some of the ways I show myself some love.

  • Lighting a candle.

I know this sounds very girly and I’m not necessarily super “girly”; but I do love lighting a candle every once in a while as a special treat (I don’t do it every day because then it would just be normal). I love strawberry scented candles!

  • Bringing in some fresh flowers.

I try to bring fresh flowers into our home on a regularly during blooming seasons. There’s a way these flowers add calm and joy to my days. I am already missing my sunflowers. I have to patiently wait on them to show up in the next season.

  • Getting more sleep.

Over the past 5 years, I have learned to survive (and even thrive) on much less sleep than I got before Vona. However, my goal has never been to survive or thrive on as little sleep as possible. I have always tried to make sleep a priority. Although it’s rarely possible for me to get 8 hours of sleep anymore. I am the type that wants to do just “one more thing” on my to-do list before I go to bed, so I really have to work diligently to get to bed on time.
One of the best ways I “love myself” is to head to bed 20-30 minutes sooner so I can may b read a book. It actually feels more restful than the usual.

  • Saying “no” to one thing I no longer love doing.

It is still very difficult for me to say “no” to requests for my time, talents, money, and other gifts even after intentional practice. However, I noted that my NO comes in more quickly whenever I feel like am running on fumes or if I just need a change of pace. Look through your daily and weekly responsibilities and choose one thing to say “no” to today.

  • Smiling.

Sometimes we just need to simply look in the mirror and give ourselves a genuine smile. And if you can’t smile at yourself, then smile at the next child you see. I can almost guarantee they’ll smile back and you’ll feel just a little bit better about yourself and your day! 🙂 I have been more intentional about smiling often lately and its therapeutic.
