How we simplified Pfavonour’s birthday bash.

Thanks to the explosion of social media over the past years, there’s a new set of “standards” parents feel we should live up to in order to “keep up with the Joneses” we see on Facebook and Instagram.
Well, I’m a firm believer that it is possible to celebrate our children on their birthday (and every day) without tons of stress, financial investment, or a huge mess to clean up the next day! Can I get an “Amen”!?

However, if you love planning, preparing for, and executing big birthday parties, then you should keep doing big birthday parties! After all, we all need some jaw-dropping inspiration when we search instagram for birthday party ideas! 🙂

This is how we simplified Pfavonour’s birthday this year.

We did not invite any guest over. Having enjoyed our Christmas holidays with several relatives and friends, we felt that it’s quite too soon to invite the same faces over again. Also given that it’s not about us, we felt that it would be much less overwhelming for Pfavonour; who tends to be reserved when put “on the spot”. We chose to let her enjoy her day without having to feel nervous at the sight of unfamiliar adults.

We considered what Pfavonour actually wants: I for sure know she loves water, swings, sand and mud. For this reason, we decided to take Vonour for a picnic at a nearby play park where she had a blast all day with other chidren.

She managed to run around with her new friends, played in the sand, bounced in the castle, enjoyed splashing water in the babies’ swimming pool while we also took time off to relax in the adults’ pool.

We packed our delicious lunch and cake: I got up earlier than usual so as to organise and pack our lunch boxes. I basically pushed our entire meal into the oven and it was done grilling within an hour. By the time my meal prep partner (Vonour) got up, all was set 🙂

We baked two teddy bear themed cakecakes the day before and iced it with soft cream in the morning. I’ll be sharing my recipe in the coming post.

The entire ‘bash’ was very affordable. We only spent money on entrance fee to the park (5k per head) and 10k per head to use the pool.

Pfavonour got all of this birthday fun without a huge party for me to plan, cook for, and clean up after.   Amazing!
