Considering the thousands of little and big decisions we need to make every single day, it’s no wonder so many people suffer from “decision fatigue”
According to wikipedia, decision fatigue is defined as; “difficulty in making a good decision experienced as a result of the number of decisions one needs to take.”
One of the ways I simplify my life is by reducing the number of decisions I need to make on a daily basis.
Personally, I get frustrated and less patient, making decision after decision all day long. However, these tips have helped lighten my load most of the time.
- I have intentionally cut down on the decisions i need to make in my own life… For example; Through limiting on the types of clothing I have — I basically wear blues, grey, white, red or floral. This way, I know most of my clothing can mix and match. Having a fixed colour pallette has also saved my time, energy and money when its time to shopping.
- I’ve also become really good at saying “no” to things, people, activities and that don’t match up with my current season of life, goals, and energy level.
- I usually make necessary decisions in advance. Planning ahead has saved me lots of mental energy during the day. I write down my to do list the night before and schedule activities up for a more orderly day. I honestly can’t envision any situation or stage of life that wouldn’t be greatly improved by planning ahead.

- I don’t let me be pressured into doing something I haven’t had time to think about first. I have learnt to politely say, “let me think about this and get back to you” or “let me check my calendar” before agreeing to add something else to my plate. There are so many great opportunities out there today (and we should all help when we can). However I usually think better and feel less frustrated when I delay any non-urgent decisions until the next day or a better day.
These simple do’s have helped me appreciate the worth of my time and effort
